Heritage Stewardship Awards
You're Invited! Tuesday, May 5, 2009
Luncheon - 11:45 a.m. - Hunter Welcome Center - ACU
The Abilene Preservation League will honor Tittle Luther Partnership for a lifetime of firm achievement in architecture and preservation. APL will also present awards for the best residential and commercial examples of preservation. Proceeds benefit the preservation work of the APL.

The firm being honored is celebrating its 52nd year in business. While founding partners Jimmy Tittle and Jack Luther could have started their practice anywhere, they wanted to work from Abilene. The firm has received both commissions and honors from around the state and nation. In 2003 TLP was presented the Texas Society of Architects' highest firm award, recognizing outstanding contributions to architecture, the profession and the community. Come join us for lunch on May 5th as we celebrate excellence. More information

What's the fate of Rosetyme?
The turn-of-the century J.D. Magee home at 1910 North 3rd Street was the first in Abilene with electricity and running water. Last year it suffered a devastating fire, and was condemned. Just last week the Preservation League completed the acquisition process and will be working to get at least a temporary roof on the structure in the next few weeks, then stabilize the exterior to near its original appearance, (left). This will be made possible by the Heritage Stewardship real estate program of APL, memberships, volunteers and help from people like you! More information

Come experience the Swenson House with great friends!
Save the date! On Friday, June 12th we'll have one of the most fun events of the year... Dinner at a Good Friend's Table at the Swenson House. Here's the way it works: put together a table of 8 friends and you'll have a room at the Swenson House to host your own dinner table. Bring your own tableware, linens and decorations, and we'll provide the gourmet dinner by Chef Joel Trueblood. While you're walking in, admire the great new exterior paint job using environmentally friendly Aura paint by Benjamin Moore from Abilene's HBC Paints. More information

A Historic Pine Street Building... Under Wraps!
Can you guess which building is shown at right? It was the home of Hall Music Company and more recently Optical Clinic. The Abilene Downtown Association and the Abilene Preservation League are launching a new storefront cleanup program on April 18. With volunteers from ACU we'll put paper with historic photos of the area in the front windows and generally clean up the front of the building. More information
